Active Gastroenteritis Open link
Cousins will return to the Kings' lineup for Saturday's game vs. the Knicks after sitting out on Friday due to gastroenteritis, or the stomach flu. He's expected to be "watched closely" by coach Tyrone Corbin and team doctors, as his health is still a concern after his recent battle with viral meningitis. His return will take back minutes from Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Derrick Williams, and Reggie Evans in the frontcourt. Teammate Ryan Hollins has been ruled out once again due to personal reasons.

Out Gastroenteritis Open link
Cousins has been ruled out for Friday's game vs. the Suns with gastroenteritis, or the stomach flu. Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Derrick Williams, and Reggie Evans will all see extended run in the frontcourt in his place, especially with Ryan Hollins having already been ruled out due to personal reasons.

Questionable Gastroenteritis Open link
Cousins is considered questionable for Friday's game vs. the Suns with gastroenteritis, or the stomach flu. We'll continue to keep an eye on his status and provide updates as needed, but Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Derrick Williams, and Reggie Evans would all see extended run in the frontcourt if this ended up costing Cousins any time. Teammate Ryan Hollins has already been ruled out due to personal reasons.
12/22/2014 3:39 PM
Active Viral meningitis Open link
The Kings continued a recent trend and have listed Cousins as probable for Monday's game vs. the Warriors, although it's purely procedural and Cousins is expected to play. The team also lists Ramon Sessions (back), Omri Casspi (knee), and Reggie Evans (knee/hip) as probable, although neither Sessions nor Casspi saw minutes during Sunday's win over the Lakers after entering the game with probable status. Rudy Gay (Achilles) has typically been included in the Kings' recent "probable" reports, but he's not listed for Monday's game.
12/18/2014 7:23 PM
Active Viral meningitis Open link
Cousins is active and in the starting lineup for Thursday's game vs. the Bucks, although he'll be working under an initial minutes restriction. Cousins participated in the Kings' full practices earlier in the week and was upgraded on Thursday, as expected, after experiencing no setbacks. Cousins has been sidelined since Nov. 28 and has missed the past 10 games due to viral meningitis. He figures to need at least a few games before he's close to full strength, but his return will take back minutes in the frontcourt from Ryan Hollins, Derrick Williams, and Reggie Evans (out, knee/hip).

Questionable Viral meningitis Open link
Cousins remains on track to make his return to the lineup on Thursday vs. the Bucks under a minutes restriction, barring any setbacks following morning shootaround. He's officially being listed as questionable by the team. He was again a participant in practice on Wednesday, and coach Ty Corbin said the team will wait and see how he responds on Thursday before officially declaring him active. Cousins has been sidelined since Nov. 28 and has missed the past 10 games due to viral meningitis. He figures to need at least a few games before he's close to full strength, but his return will take back minutes in the frontcourt from Reggie Evans, Derrick Williams, and Ryan Hollins.

Out Viral meningitis Open link
Cousins has made good progress in his recovery from viral meningitis over the past few days and is now expected to return to the Kings' lineup on Thursday under a minutes restriction. This is a quick progression in his timeline, with the recently departed Michael Malone having said on Friday that the hope was that he could return to contact drills sometime during the week given the team was looking to take things slowly. Cousins figures to need at least a few games before he's close to full strength, but his return will take back surplus minutes in the frontcourt from Reggie Evans, Derrick Williams, and Ryan Hollins. All three players will still see extra run on Tuesday vs. the Thunder, the 10th and final game that Cousins is expected to miss.

Injured Viral meningitis Open link
Cousins was on the court doing individual work and shooting jump shots after the Kings practiced on Friday (he didn't participate), a good sign that he's at least making some progress in his recovery from viral meningitis. Coach Michael Malone said the hope is that he'll be able to rejoin the team for full contact drills early next week, though he emphasized that he is still taking it slowly. Cousins remains out indefinitely and the team has yet to issue an update of his status since Malone said that they had "no idea" when he'd be back as of Monday. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meningitis is "an inflammation of the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord," and full recovery typically takes 7-10 days without treatment, although the virus simply has to run its course in each individual case. Cousins could be getting closer to being healthy enough to resume basketball activities, but we can only speculate until the team provides an official update. Reggie Evans, Reggie Williams, Ryan Hollins, and Jason Thompson will continue to see the bulk of the Kings' frontcourt minutes for however long he remains sidelined.

Injured Viral meningitis Open link
Cousins has been diagnosed with viral meningitis and has been officially ruled out for next week, with a specific timetable for his return an unknown. "He's out indefinitely, we have no idea when he'll be back," said coach Michael Malone before Monday's game. Cousins recently complained that he was still being bothered by headaches as he continues to recover slowly from his viral infection. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, meningitis is "an inflammation of the tissue that covers the brain and spinal cord," and full recovery typically takes 7-10 days without treatment, although the virus simply has to run its course in each individual case. Cousins could attempt to resume basketball activities later in the week if he's deemed healthy enough, and we'll continue to update his status based on his recovery. Reggie Evans, Reggie Williams, Ryan Hollins, and Jason Thompson will continue to see the bulk of the Kings' frontcourt minutes for however long he remains sidelined.

Doubtful Viral infection Open link
Coach Mike Malone isn't optimistic Cousins will be able to return to the lineup for Monday's contest vs. the Jazz. Malone added that it's a "wait and see" situation and that his pessimism comes from the fact that Cousins hasn't done anything, including practice, for over a week. Cousins is still listed as day-to-day with viral meningitis and will be re-evaluated by a doctor on Sunday. He is still being bothered by headaches. Given Cousins is unlikely to play on Monday, it puts his status for Tuesday in serious question as well in what is the second leg of a back-to-back. Ryan Hollins, Reggie Evans, Reggie Williams, and Jason Thompson would continue to see the bulk of the Kings' frontcourt minutes should Cousins need to miss additional time.
12/7/2014 1:04 AM
Questionable Viral infection Open link
Cousins missed his fifth consecutive game on Saturday due to his viral infection, as expected, and coach Michael Malone couldn't say whether or not he'll be able to return to the Kings' active roster on Monday vs. Utah, given his lack of practice time. We're likely to get more clarification on his status at some point on Sunday, but Cousins would almost certainly be out for both games of the upcoming back-to-back if he isn't active on Monday. Ryan Hollins, Reggie Evans, Reggie Williams, and Jason Thompson would continue to see the frontcourt minutes if Cousins does happen to need to miss more time.

Injured Viral infection Open link
The Kings announced Wednesday that Cousins had been admitted to a hospital for treatment and rest as he continues to recover from his viral infection. He has since been released and his condition is improving daily, but he's been ruled out for both Friday and Saturday's games. The team hopes to have him back and at full-strength next week. Cousins was active at shootaround Tuesday, but took a turn for the worse after pre-game warmups and ended up being a late scratch. “A fever, headaches, so they just wanted to be safe," coach Mike Malone said. Reggie Evans and Ryan Hollins will continue to handle the majority ofd the minutes at center for at least the next two games while Cousins remains sidelined.

Injured Viral infection Open link
The Kings announced Wednesday that Cousins has been admitted to a hospital for treatment and rest as he continues to recover from his viral infection. His condition is improving daily, according to the team release, but he's been ruled out for both of the team's weekend games, with "a return to competition expected by next week." Reggie Evans and Ryan Hollins will continue to see the surplus run at center for at least the next two games, while Cousins remains sidelined.
12/2/2014 10:47 AM
Questionable Illness Open link
Cousins will meet with doctors on Tuesday and is reportedly feeling much better after being sick over the weekend. He's still being considered questionable as of now for Tuesday's contest vs. the Raptors though. Malone said Cousins will undergo testing to make sure he could be cleared as he's missed the past two games due to an illness. Ryan Hollins would continue to start at center in Cousins' place if he had to miss more time, with Jason Thompson and Carl Landry seeing additional run in the frontcourt as well.

Questionable Illness Open link
Cousins was not at practice on Monday and is officially being listed as questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Raptors. Coach Michael Malone is hopeful though that Cousins will be cleared for shootaround Tuesday and will be able to play. Malone said Cousins was undergoing tests to make sure he could be cleared as he's missed the past two games due to an illness. Ryan Hollins would continue to start at center in Cousins' place if he had to miss more time, with Jason Thompson and Carl Landry also seeing additional run in the frontcourt as well.
11/30/2014 2:17 PM
Out Illness Open link
Cousins has been ruled out a for a second straight game on Sunday due to an illness. Ryan Hollins drew the start in his place on Friday and will presumably start again, with Jason Thompson and Carl Landry to also see additional run in the frontcourt with Cousins sidelined.
11/30/2014 1:20 AM
Questionable Illness Open link
Cousins is being listed as questionable for Sunday's game vs. the Grizzlies due to an illness, which caused him to sit out Friday's loss. Should he continue to be under the weather and have to miss additional time, Ryan Hollins, Jason Thompson, and Carl Landry would continue to see extended run in the frontcourt.
11/28/2014 4:04 PM
Out Illness Open link
Cousins has officially been ruled out for Friday's game vs. the Spurs due to illness. His absence will mean more minutes for Jason Thompson, Carl Landry, Reggie Evans, and Derrick Williams in the frontcourt, and we'll look for further updates on his status in advance of Sunday's game vs. Memphis.
11/19/2014 9:10 PM
Probable Left hip flexor tendinitis Open link
Cousins was recently added to the Kings' injury report and is listed as probable for Thursday's game vs. the Bulls with left hip flexor tendinitis. This doesn't appear to be anywhere serious enough where it will cause him to miss time, but we'll keep an eye on it just in case. Jason Thompson is also listed as probable due to left quadriceps tendinitis.
11/9/2014 5:14 PM
Active Sprained right thumb Open link
Cousins is active and in the starting lineup for Sunday's game vs. the Thunder, as expected. He's been dealing with a sprained thumb, but it certainly didn't show any signs of it affecting him during Friday's win, and he looks to be good to go moving forward.
