Out for season Sciatica/nerve/back Open link
Nash has officially been declared out for the whole of the 2014-15 season. He had been dealing with shooting pains down his leg after suffering a setback with his back last week, hurting it while carrying bags, and continues to deal with the same long list of injuries - sciatica, hamstring, back, and so on - that are all related. Perhaps this news isn't surprising, given the circumstances, and it allows the Lakers to move forward without the high level of uncertainty. Jeremy Lin is now locked in as the Lakers' starter at point guard, with Ronnie Price and rookie Jordan Clarkson in line to see the reserve minutes. Nash had previously said that he expected 2014-15 to be his final season, and this certainly could mark the end of his celebrated career.

Injured Sciatica/nerve/back Open link
Nash hasn’t practiced in nearly a week and has definitively been ruled out for Sunday's preseason game. He said he hopes he can "bounce back quickly" from his recent setback, but added that he currently has shooting pains down his leg and has been dealing with sciatica and back spasms this past week. Nash suffered a setback with his back on Wednesday, hurting it while carrying bags, and continues to deal with a long list of injuries - sciatica, hamstring, back, and so on - that are all related. Coach Byron Scott has already talked about Jeremy Lin taking over as the team's new starting point guard in his place, and asked when Nash would play again, Scott said, "I don’t know what the future holds for Steve right now." We've stressed repeatedly that Nash is highly unlikely to stay healthy for the majority of the regular season as he had problems just playing in back-to-backs last year, and this is further evidence of that. The fact that Nash aggravated his back injury just carrying bags doesn't lead to much optimism about him making it through the season healthy. Jeremy Lin looks to be the favorite to start at point guard at this point given Nash's diminishing health, and this further solidifies his value as a solid mid-round pick.

Injured Sciatica/nerve/back Open link
Coach Byron Scott said Nash had a little bit of a setback Wednesday with his back, adding that he hurt it while carrying bags. He did not practice and is unlikely to play in Thursday's preseason game. Nash is continuing to deal with a long list of injuries - sciatica, hamstring, back, and so on - all of which are related. He re-aggravated his nerve issue during the first half of Sunday's exhibition and told Scott afterwards that he "just didn't feel quite right." Nash has yet to do any work on the court since, and Scott has already talked about Jeremy Lin taking over as the team's new starting point guard in his place. Asked when Nash would play again, Scott told the Los Angeles Times, "I have no idea right now." Injured Sprained left ankle Open link
Nash rolled his left ankle during practice on Saturday after stepping on a teammate's foot during a conditioning drill. He was held out of the final portion of practice according to Lakers trainer Gary Vitti because he's "fragile." It sounds relatively minor and he's hoping to return to practice on Sunday, but earlier this week, Nash said the key to the sustainability of his back and nerve issues was avoiding minor injuries that would keep him off the floor. "It's important not to get an ankle, or a thigh bruise, or all the little niggles," Nash said. "If I can manage the amount of minutes I’m out on the court or do enough to keep myself going or don’t overdo it to where I can’t recover, then maybe I've got a chance to play a lot." Owners should look to avoid Nash entirely as he is a major injury risk who will likely not be able to make it through the season, and even when he does play, will only see limited minutes.

Out for season Nerve irritation in leg Open link
Coach Mike D'Antoni officially closed the door Thursday on Nash returning this season for the Lakers. "He's not going to play." D'Antoni will continue to give the bulk of the team's point guard minutes to Kendall Marshall and Jordan Farmar, and it's likely that the Lakers will look to waive Nash this off-season through the stretch provision to spread his cap hit over three years.

Injured Nerve irritation in leg Open link
Coach Mike D'Antoni said Monday that he doubts Steve Nash will play in another game this season, although he didn't officially rule him out. Nash still doesn't feel healthy and D'Antoni said that, down the stretch of this lost season, he wants the minutes at point guard to go to his younger players (Kendall Marshall and Jordan Farmar). Nash's most recent game played was his 10th of the season, which disqualified the team from exercising a medical retirement option. Now it's looking likely that the Lakers will release him in the off-season and use the stretch provision to spread his salary over three years. Nash himself on his potential to play again this season: "We’ll see. I couldn’t really make a prediction. If I get a chance, it’ll be great."
